One of the voluntary activities previously supported by TASL, church recording, recognises the rich heritage of places of worship, and may interest members keen on architecture,  local and national history and church art of all kinds, including metal work, stained glass, textiles and woodwork. Church recorders work as a team researching and  documenting one church at a time: copies of completed records go to national institutions and local Archives, as well as to the church concerned. The national Church Recording Society, a members' society set up to serve  Arts Societies and their church recording groups, provides expertise and advice, technical resources and support.

The  Arts Society Leeds' church recording group’s most recently completed record was of St Peter, Addingham, completed in 2019; the group also recorded Victorian city church, St Saviour, Ellerby Rd, Leeds, commissioned by  Pusey and consecrated in 1845, and notable particularly for its  glorious windows.
