Welcome to The Arts Society Leeds
Welcome to The Arts Society Leeds, a member of The Arts Society, (formerly NADFAS), an arts-based charity with a global network of over 50,000 members in over 350 local Societies in the UK and overseas. The Arts Societies bring together like-minded people to enjoy the arts, make friends and learn.
Lectures
Our main activity features a programme of illustrated afternoon lectures on the third Wednesday of the month. For our lectures we invite some of the country's top experts to talk about their favourite subjects, which may range from paintings, sculpture, ceramics and silver to music, gardens, theatre and architecture – the choice is endless and the talks are designed to inform and entertain.
Our lectures are held on the third Wednesday of the month (except July, August & December) in Castle Grove Hall, Castle Grove Drive, Headingley, Leeds LS6 4BP. Lectures start at 1.30 p.m. and last about an hour. A light lunch and refreshments are available to purchase from 12 noon and there is a bar. Arrive from 12.00 p.m. and there is time to socialise, to meet new people or catch up with old friends.
Special Events and Visits
We also organise Special Events, Study Days (where we take longer to look at topics in depth) and Visits to places of cultural, historical and artistic interest.
Volunteering
The Arts Society aims to contribute to the preservation of our artistic heritage, and believes that our work create a better, healthier and more connected society by enriching peoples’ lives
Our Society has supported The Leeds Library, and Church Recording at St Peter's in Addingham and St Saviour's Leeds, and is currently working with Opera North, to support Opera North's Youth Company financially.
Our Committee
Members of the Committee organise the activities and manage the affairs of the Society in collaboration with Society Head Office in London.
Any member is very welcome to attend our committee meetings.
We are looking for fresh faces to join our committee. Whatever talents you can bring are welcome. Why not come along and see us in action, or have a word with any committee member?
Committee members normally serve for three years. Volunteers are welcome to shadow any current member with a view to taking over the role when the current member’s term expires. We also welcome help from volunteers who do not want to be on the Committee.
